Today, Dianne is sharing another incredible Season 4 Lovefest author with all of you. In this episode, Dianne chats with international bestselling historical fiction author, Karen Essex.
Karen has a variety of published works that all focus on the accomplishments of her strong female characters. The woman discuss many of the titles Karen has available but the focus on her Kleopatra duology, Kleopatra, Book I: The Early Years and Pharaoh, Book II of Kleopatra. While the first book, focuses on Kleopatra's early life, Pharaoh tells the about this incredible woman's life as a diplomat, leader, and her involvement with Marc Anthony, one of the greatest love stories in history.
Besides writing Kleopatra and Pharaoh, she has also adapted both into screenplays for Warner Bros. Lionsgate Entertainment. Recently she adapted both for Netflix with Essex co-writing a pilot. Script adaptations is something Karen is quite experienced in, having adapted Anne Rice’s novel The Mummy or Ramses the Damned into a screenplay for director James Cameron and 20th Century Fox, as well as many other notable projects and continues to develop a variety of film and television projects.
Born and raised in New Orleans, Karen graduated from Tulane University, attended graduate school at Vanderbilt University, and received an MFA in Writing from Goddard College. Besides her writing career, Karen had worked as a model and costume designer. She has lived in London and divides her time between NOLA, Los Angeles, and Europe.
