Hello, Posse!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend wherever you are. I spent my time getting the house ready for a visitor coming this week. Some of you may know that I got a wonderful package deal when I married P.R. which included amazing twin girls (not identical, thank goodness). Well, those girl are women now and one is coming to visit.
One twin has been here to visit us twice before, but the other was never ready to come until now. We are really looking forward to this. I am especially excited because while we have video chatted and texted, we have never been in the same room before. This will be a first. I may have to see if I can talk her into doing a Wednesday Whatever Podcast. No pressure though.
I don't know if she likes western movies or not, but I think today's movie might be a good one with which to start her out on the genre. The Kid from Texas is an American western released in 1950 and stars Audie Murphy as the infamous William H. Bonney better known as Billy the Kid. Joining Murphy on the cast is Gale Storm, Albert Dekker, Shepperd Strudwick, Will Geer, William Talman, Martin Garralaga, Robert H. Barrat, Walter Sande, and Frank Wilcox in the major roles.
This film is a fictionalized account of the Lincoln County Wars. A rancher, Jameson (Strudwick) takes in Billy the Kid (Murphy) and gives him a job as a hired hand. When cowboys working for a rival rancher ambush and kill Jameson, Billy decides to make those responsible pay for the rancher's death. Billy spends the next two years tracking down everyone involved and serving up what he considers to be justice. Other people did not see it the same way. Billy manages to stay one step ahead of the law until Sheriff Pat Garrett (Wilcox) finally catches up to him.
Murphy gives a stellar performance as Billy the Kid and it really should not be missed. But then, when did Audie Murphy ever turn in a bad performance? Check it out for yourself, I posted a link to the full, free movie available on YouTube. After this movie, search for others by Murphy on YouTube. You really can't miss with any of this movies.
Movie Snack Recipe
Since Billy the Kid spent a good deal of time in New Mexico, I thought a dish from the area would make for a good movie snack today. Today's recipe is quick, easy, and packed with flavor! What more could you want? Oh, did I mention it's high in protein and low on calories?
I'm talking about All Recipes, Southwest Skillet Bread (<--- click red text or photo for recipe). While this recipe is listed as a breakfast dish, I think it's tasty enough to make a great snack anytime of the day or night! Pair this with a little fresh, chunky salsa or a quick guacamole and you have got yourself an A1 movie snack!
