Monday Movie Madness: The Hateful Eight

Hello Posse!

I hope this blog finds everyone happy and healthy this week! We have been "safe at home" now for about 91 days. Thankfully P.R.'s job is something that can be done from home. We have been very lucky in that regard. Mine as well but then I am not really making a living from this just yet; I'm still working on that part of my writing career. Thank goodness for 401Ks and being old enough to use them.

I have lots to cover today, first of all, the good news!!!!!

My wonderful beta reader, Sharon Stephens (otherwise known as, Mom) has finished reading part four and given me her notes on the storyline. My irreplaceable editor, Greg Wood, has given me the edits for the first third of the book, which I will be starting on this week, and will be giving me the rest of the edits very soon. I would be lost without these two!

Once I get the edits updated in the book, I will begin the countdown to the book launch. I am working on some ideas for promotions but if you have any ideas as to what you would like to see, please share them with me. I will have more updates on this later this week. Why not take this time to sign up for my email list (<--- click here) so you will be sure not to miss out on any upcoming news? It is always free to join and you can leave at anytime, no strings are ever attached. You have complete control over your membership, always!

But for now, on with the show . . .

Today's flick is very different from anything I have posted before. It is a typical Quentin Tarantino movie in that it is most definitely for mature audiences. If you do not like movies with graphic violence, curse words, and a total lack of anything even resembling political correctness, this is NOT the film for you!

However, if you like films that more than likely show life in the Wild West as it truly was, at least in some places, this movie is filled with stars who give incredible performances. It might just be me, but this movie had a real "Ten Little Indians" (movie based on a book by Agatha Christie) feel to it. You know there is a conspiracy afoot but the action keeps you guessing until the reveal.

While Tarantino movies usually push me to my ultimate limit of what I feel comfortable watching (which I often think is his goal), I am always impressed with the performances and the overall story in his movies. The Hateful Eight is no exception.

This movie has an incredible cast, Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Demián Bichir, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, and Bruce Dern all star in this 2015 American western. It is considered to be a western thriller and was made on a budget of 45 million dollars. It grossed 155.8 million at the box office, not a bad return on investment.

It was written and directed by Quentin Tarantino and distributed by The Weinstein Company in the United States. If that name sounds familiar, it could be because the company is owned by brothers Bob and Harvey Weinstein (yes, that Harvey Weinstein, but we will not touch on that here).

The plot of this movie is simple but how it unfolds is very complex. Eight strangers seek shelter from a blizzard at a stagecoach stop. While confined in the small space together alliances are formed, secrets are revealed, people are poisoned, shot, and so much more. I will not go into detail on the plot here. With all the twists and turns in this story, I would never be able to do it justice. If you can handle this kind of raw entertainment, this is a movie you should not miss. Just keep in mind that Tarantino is the film maker who is probably single handedly keeping the theatrical blood makers in business. Be prepared for blood, guts, and probably more blood along with the captivating story and stellar performances.

Be sure to check out my Facebook page (<--- click here) for today's movie snack to pair with this film. Seeing as how this is a very adult themed movie today, I thought I would go with an adult movie treat too, a three ingredient wine slushie!

So pop that corn and settle in, it's time for a movie!

Enjoy!

Stephen
