Today I am so thrilled to share my conversation with Aislinn Brophy (pronounced ASH-lin Bro-fee). Aislinn can best be described as a decidedly creative soul. Besides being a dancer, a singer, an actor, and a twice traditionally published author, they have a long list of hobbies including “pawning off their baking on anybody nearby, doing funny voices, and dismantling the patriarchy.”
Aislinn takes pride in their passions and makes a pointed effort to explore identity and social justice issues in their published work. With the increased presence of social media influencers and their impact on society, culture, and communication practices in general, Aislinn’s latest book, the Penguin YA Queer romantasy, Spells to Forget Us, is not only timely, but relatable, especially with members of Gen Z and Gen Alpha readers.
According to a press release from Penguin Young Readers, “SPELLS TO FORGET US delves into topics including privacy and consent through the context of parent influencers and their children. Brophy brings attention to an emerging issue affecting Gen Z, providing a unique perspective not often explored in young adult literature.”
